Dear Teen Me Launch & Mini Book Tour!

How excellent is it to have launched my first book? Pretty freaking excellent.

I’ve been signing all over recently to promote DEAR TEEN ME, but the official launch was on November 10th at The Book Spot in Round Rock. I asked folks to attend in retro formal wear for the high school homecoming theme. Man they went all out:

I also had a great time reading and listening to some of my fellow contributors read from the book. Danny and Julie, owners of the Book Spot, were very gracious. They even let me decorate their book store high school dance style. We kind of rearranged everything. How awesome are they?

My first book is out today! OMG, DEAR TEEN ME!

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Similarly, it takes a community to create a book. At least in my world, this is true.

I’m a writer. I write, in some ways, by myself, clicking away at my computer at odd hours, in bed, at the dining room table, at various coffee shops (once at a Wendy’s)…and yet, this is only part of the writing. There are the critique partners, the cheerleaders, the conferences where we gain insights from industry pros and heroes. There are the books that you read by other authors — friends and strangers — and every word touches what you do.

This past weekend, as you could see from my post yesterday, was a huge meeting of two worlds for me.

So you might have heard of this little book I co-edited called DEAR TEEN ME. It’s an anthology of letters from authors to their teen selves. The authors in the anthology range from best-selling and award-winning authors to some fabulous up and comers. I know that no matter what, if you pick up the book, you’ll find a letter or two (at least!) that speaks to you.

That’s right, trailerS! We had so much material from all of our authors that we split our book trailer into three parts. And thanks to Ann at Zest Books, Brett Spigelman and I Love Monsters, Bandolier, and Alright Class for letting us to use their music and being a part of Team DTM! And of course to all the authors who helped us make these trailers happen with their awesome video clips!

This is just a quick note to let you know how proud I am to have had the privilege to use this blog as a hub for banned books celebrations throughout September. I loved all the heartfelt, hard-hitting, exciting, and smart posts from some of our favorite authors as well as some brilliant up-and-comers. I’m hard-pressed to pick favorites, but I’d love to hear which ones you enjoyed most! And I’d love it if y’all would comment on some of these authors’ posts! Dear Teen Me News! ARCs, Junior Library Guild, & More!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a little note on some fabulous updates on the DEAR TEEN ME front. So much exciting stuff is happening and I can hardly hold in my YAY!s.

First of all, a few weeks ago we found out that DEAR TEEN ME is an official Junior Library Guild selection. I can’t even tell you how much this means to us at Team DTM, and I’m just beyond thrilled.

And then there’s the holy yay we sold AUDIO RIGHTS! The audio edition should be coming out simultaneously from Brilliance Audio. Thanks to Team DTM, agent extraordinaire Sara Megibow, John Grace at Brilliance, and my co-editor Miranda Kenneally for making this happen! Here’s the PM announcement:

E. Kristin Anderson grew up in Westbrook, Maine and is a graduate of Connecticut College. She has a fancy diploma that says “B.A. in Classics,” which makes her sound smart but has not helped her get any jobs in Ancient Rome. Ms. Anderson is the co-editor of Dear Teen Me, an anthology based on the popular website. Her poetry has been published worldwide in many magazines and she is an assistant YA and Children’s editor at Hunger Mountain. Once upon a time she worked at The New Yorker. Look out for Ms. Anderson's work in the forthcoming anthology Coin Opera II, a collection of poems about video games from Sidekick Books and Futuredaze, an anthology of YA SciFi from Underwords.
