I’m in Post Road!

I’m so excited to announce that two of my poems appear in the latest issue of Post Road!

I received my contributor copies last week and I am so thrilled. Looking back, Post Road is one of the first magazines I submitted to as a kinderpoet — you know, back when I was just starting to send out work, and thought I’d surely be accepted by ALL THE MAGAZINES! That was several years ago, and while every publication I’ve been in has been an honor, there’s something special about being in a mag like Post Road that has been on my radar for so long.

FUTUREDAZE is here!

I’m so so thrilled to be a part of FUTUREDAZE, the debut anthology from Underwords Press, edited by the brilliant Hannah Strom-Martin and Erin Underwood. I contributed one of my favorite poems, “The Ghost Hunter,” and it’s sitting pretty among so many other amazing works of young adult literature.

Holy wow!

My author copy came a week or so back and I spent some time petting and and loving it and, you know, READING it.

And then there’s the Piers Anthony factor.

My first book is out today! OMG, DEAR TEEN ME!

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Similarly, it takes a community to create a book. At least in my world, this is true.

I’m a writer. I write, in some ways, by myself, clicking away at my computer at odd hours, in bed, at the dining room table, at various coffee shops (once at a Wendy’s)…and yet, this is only part of the writing. There are the critique partners, the cheerleaders, the conferences where we gain insights from industry pros and heroes. There are the books that you read by other authors — friends and strangers — and every word touches what you do.

This past weekend, as you could see from my post yesterday, was a huge meeting of two worlds for me.

I have an agent! For reals!

I was going to write this epic, long post with all the wild details of how I came to sign with my agent Christina Hogrebe at the Jane Rotrosen Agency. I was going to tell you about querying Carlie Webber and later meeting her at the Writers’ League of Texas conference (where I managed to drop the f bomb while talking to her…woops) and I was going to tell you about how when Christina called me to offer representation Carly Rae Jepsen was on the radio and I was in the middle of sending a tweet about how I felt this song seemed to be foreshadowing a good day. (I only later made the Carly/Carlie connection.)

Dear Teen Me News! ARCs, Junior Library Guild, & More!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a little note on some fabulous updates on the DEAR TEEN ME front. So much exciting stuff is happening and I can hardly hold in my YAY!s.

First of all, a few weeks ago we found out that DEAR TEEN ME is an official Junior Library Guild selection. I can’t even tell you how much this means to us at Team DTM, and I’m just beyond thrilled.

And then there’s the holy yay we sold AUDIO RIGHTS! The audio edition should be coming out simultaneously from Brilliance Audio. Thanks to Team DTM, agent extraordinaire Sara Megibow, John Grace at Brilliance, and my co-editor Miranda Kenneally for making this happen! Here’s the PM announcement:

E. Kristin Anderson grew up in Westbrook, Maine and is a graduate of Connecticut College. She has a fancy diploma that says “B.A. in Classics,” which makes her sound smart but has not helped her get any jobs in Ancient Rome. Ms. Anderson is the co-editor of Dear Teen Me, an anthology based on the popular website. Her poetry has been published worldwide in many magazines and she is an assistant YA and Children’s editor at Hunger Mountain. Once upon a time she worked at The New Yorker. Look out for Ms. Anderson's work in the forthcoming anthology Coin Opera II, a collection of poems about video games from Sidekick Books and Futuredaze, an anthology of YA SciFi from Underwords. She now lives in Austin, TX and blogs at EKristinAnderson.com and MetreMaids.com. She is represented by Christina Hogrebe at the Jane Rotrosen Agency.
